Yesterday we went to a restaurant called Ribe on the Avenue du Suffren in Paris. This is really close to the Eiffel Tower.

It looked, actually, rather unpromising from first glance, but we were hungry, so we investigated the menu, and actually, there was a reasonabl;e choice of things we thought looked nice.

The decor was African themed, with dark wood panelling and textured cream paper for both the walls and the cieling. There were paintings, some animals, a depiction of whaty seemed to be the flight into Egypt, a haunting desert nomad and a paitning I couldn;t work out how I felt about, a colonial couple, with luggage in the foreground, and the looked about to part. So even if I didn't want to look at Colin, there was stuff to look at :)

I had snails, and Colin had French onion soup. His soup was gorgeous, very strong flavour and plenty of cheese/bread on top. My snails were nice too. Then he has chicken with tarrogon and I had duck with honey. My duck was exquisite. The honey sauce also went well with the creamed celeriac which was the veg of the day (I'm not sure how often they change it, but presumably it's seasonal as it wasn;t mentione what accompanying veg would be). His chicken was very falvoursome, but my duck won. It was tender and the sauce worked really well; just a really good balanced mix of flavours.

Then I had lavender creme brulee, which worked really well (I shall have to try making lavendar creme caramel) and he had tarte tatin, which also seemd good.

And it wasn't hugely expensivbe, either, just very good food.
