Today I am mostly reading Bitten by Kelley Armstrong. Pull quote (from Daily Express review) on back 'Makes Buffy look fluffy' gives the right impression - cute blonde girl with troubled past takes on supernaturals. It's a nice look at werewolf politics with a light touch, a brain candy urban fantasy perfect for curling up with and not thinking too hard.

I paused on Ancillary Sword for no other reason than I was going away and wanted a paper book rather than electronic. It's OK, but now I've remembered who Justice of Toren reminds me of, I want to go and read that instead. It is The Ship Who Sang, which I recommend to everyone who shows the slightest interest in AI books (although actually she's a cyborg); I think McCaffrey's SF is much better than her fantasy, much as I loved Pern as a child I'm not eager to return.

Huh, I've read some pretty scathing reviews of TSWS from a disability perspective.

YES ISN'T KELLEY ARMSTRONG BRILLIANT FLUFF. My absolute favourite thing about Bitten is that I have a bound uncorrected proof (picked up second-hand) on which the strapline is "she's a wolf in chic clothing" wHICH I FEEL TELLS YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW GOING IN.

It's actually a long time since I read TSWS and perhaps I need to revisit it.

Totally agree on the Kelley Armstrong.

Actually, thinking about it I read it as anti-ablist but I probably had my wishful thinking hat on. Perhaps I should stop recommending it.

I loved TSWS very much as a child, and there were several co-written sequels which I liked in varying amounts, but I haven't reread it since becoming more aware of disability issues.

"wolf in chic clothing" is hilarious! (I was working my way through Kelley Armstrong books from the library a few years ago; I should get back to that)
