For some reason my eyes lit on the signature line of this email first:

"Your dealer in addictive substances."

Which is all a roundabout way of saying, that after 25 years of wanting to spin I've finally ordered a drop spindle, roving and book, and the email was my order confirmation.

(I'm sure I've mentioned before how when I was seven, we moved in one street over from a spinning wheel shop (it's not there any more, but it used to be in some woman's front room, and last time I googled it I found a page from someone lamenting its closure). Since then I've been fascinated by the whole idea. I'd not long started knitting, but I don't think I related the two ideas in my head.)

I have spun briefly a couple of times, once when my class visited the Science Museum and once at a county fair. I think twice with a wheel and vaguely recall once with a spindle too. I fancied the idea too but it's more appropriate for you because you knit lots. I did a bit but haven't lately and it was only ever scarves. Funny because both daughters got it just around then and also did brief simple things. Heredity?

Well, yes. I seem to be surrounded by spinners at the moment as well, which is good because they can help (especially Clare-from-knitting, who uses a drop spindle)

Hurrah. It's wonderful when people get around to doing something they've always wanted to do.

It was run out of someone's front room, just south of the alley on Furnace Lane

My husband (who's an expert, having seen this exact progression with his first wife), assures me that the common sequence is knitting/crocheting - spinning - weaving - raising sheep.

He just grins when he catches me looking at loom catalogs.

Let me know when you need the details for Fiber Addicts Anonymous.

That sounds like a logical progression...but I think I'll skip weaving. Probably.
