Do any of you happen to know of any cheap and not too busy barbers in Cambridge? I've decided to take B to a barber rather than cut his hair myself (probably) but I have zero experience of professional haircuts, and Colin's and Jon's are a long time ago.

I have to say after trying a few barbers myself, I just ended up going for the buzz cut. Seemed pointless to spend $20 on a bad hair-cut every month that I was never really happy with. Probably not such a great option for B though.

I've always done him a number 2 or 3 all over in the past.

There is a barber on Cherry Hinton High Street which is busy enough not to start wondering why everyone is avoiding it, but not too busy. I (obviously) have never been there myself but have known people who went there and they never emerged with half an ear. No idea of costs. I remember when it used to be a newsagent and I scraped together 14p in pennies to buy a packet of polos. Happy days. Sorry, I digress...

I used to go to the place on Bridge St almost opposite Magdalen.

Obviously, I don't know. But our barber that John and Sam go to has a list of prices clearly on display, so maybe it is possible to go on a recce?

Since Ray closed I've been going to Polito's near Corpus opposite the old DAMTP building. Quick, friendly, about £11.

Tony approves of Polito's. We have taken C along a few times to watch Tony getting done and they haven't minded. They were willing to give him a trim too, but he panicked at the hairdryer noise, so we decided not.

I went there too (a long time ago) and it was good.

Excellent, that seems to be three votes for the same guy, we'll do that in future. I ended up cutting it myself again this time.

I use the market barber, who is both cheap and very very good (took me a while after Ray retired to find someone I was happy with).

There's often a queue, but he'll tell you how many people are before you so you can go and do a quick bit of shopping and come back.
