I made pain au chocolat with mini daim bars. They were really very tasty, but if I make them again, I'll leave them to rise longer the first rise and remember to glaze them (they looked slightly undercooked, but weren't). I'm not sure that the daim bar actually added much, beyond a slight crunch, I don't think I'll do that again, but I'm glad I tried.

My French teacher said to us, "When you go to France, you must go to a boulangerie and buy yourself a pain au chocolat, and I promise you will be happy for the rest of the day."

I don't know whether she was right: I have never yet been to France.

I;ve been to France twice and on two trips had pain au chocolat for breakfast. I've then been pretty happy :) I wouldn't buy one in a boulangerie, though,as there are other cakes less readily available in England I'd buy instead.

I did, and I'll definitely be making croissants of some sort again, just maybe with different chocolate, or plain ones.
