Yesterday was a day of people. There were lots of spods, all of whom were incredibly lovely, and [livejournal.com profile] jaq has posted pics already. New people are shiny and nice and cute and cuddly, and it was great to meet you all. The rest of you are wonderful, and I knew that already, and [livejournal.com profile] marble was there, and I haven't seen him for *6* years, so Hurrah! for breaking that drout.

Then I feel foul of geek social fallcy number 1 (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rmc28 for that one), but [livejournal.com profile] chess (who reminds me of my cousin, the one in Japan) saved the day (thankyou!)

Um, yes, so there were people in a cafe being spods, and then some of us invaded Poohsoc, and others went shopping, it was great.

Then later on we ate fish and chips and people dispersed.

I went for a brisk walk (which I should do more of; I love Cambridge at night) and nipped into the Carlton for a swift half, and saw lots more exciting people. (All in the name of PhD avoidance, and it's not even *my* PhD)

geek social phallu.. er fallacies.

*koff*[livejournal.com profile] mdavison*koff*,
I do feel sorry for chess having to save the rest of us by taking herself off with the randoms. But everyone thought it, and no-one wanted to say anything..

Apart from that, it was very nice, and good to meet you at last!

You don't think he's going to find this and be horribly offended, do you?

Doesn't matter if he did, it's your journal and you can say what you like about anyone you like. And it might stop him from tagging himself onto any group of geeks that he happens to find in future.

The one with the big orange scarf.

It was nice to meet you, too :)

I almost wish I'd been there, except that I had a lot of fun in St Andrews yesterday.

(I was vaguely thinking about coming down for a dance (http://www.cam.ac.uk/societies/cusrc/highlandball.htm) in Cambridge last night, until I found out that the St Andrews dance was on the same day...)

My supervisor's wife was and quite possibly still is doing a PhD, part time. I remember him once saying that he'd go to work and spend all day dealing with stressed-out PhD students, and then come home to one...

YFYP carriers deal with other people's fallacies by ignoring them entirely, in the process acquiring a reputation for being charmingly tactless.

Boy, have they got my number!

"charmingly" seems a little optimistic to me, though.

For some reason I'm reminded of someone claiming that you could be restrained and sedated.

You're charming at least sometimes, more than I can manage.
