For reference: my old Samsung Galaxy S5 was reasonable for a fair bit of gaming, could technically run Pokemon Go but wasn't really particularly good at it, in the end I considered it unusable for Pokemon Go. 2GB RAM, 2.1 GHz quad core + 1.5 GHz quad core. It looks like a refurbished one will set you back about £120 or so.
There's a 20% or so chance that that very phone may become available, complete with free pink case and everything. On the other hand family have first dibs on it, and Dad has suggested he might want it.
Looking at your FB post, I suspect that refurbished phones might offer better specs than similarly-priced new budget phones.
Thanks, that's useful - I didn't want to get into an argument about how young is too young for a phone, so didn't mention on Facebook, but I actually intend to acquire two phones, only one of which needs to play PoGo.
I am revisiting my position on refurb phones, but ARM people were recommending a Samsung J3 for purpose, which I was considering anyway, so I might go for that for the second, although we've been given a phone I think will be perfect for Judith, so I might get a second of the same model.
Good question. I guess about £100 although I'm also thinking that's too
much to ask. I hadn't appreciated to what extent casual gaming actually
uses a lot of resources.
If you're happy with second-hand, the OnePlus One and X are both around
that price point and perfectly capable of running Pokemon Go (in the sense
that my current phone is a One).
