Thankyou for your input, I decided to go with Banana Yoshimoto, and bought her first book, Kitchen, which I thought I'd read before but I hadn't. It's a beautiful story with lots of lovely descriptions and in particular the food and tea is just delightful.

So I've gone for some more, Amrita and Goodbye Tsugumi.
