But I don't think your particular argument holds any water. The state has the monopoly on violence, and by some political theories that pretty much defines statehood. It's not, for example, a double standard that we let the state seize someone off the street and lock them away for years and years, where we don't let private individuals arrest people, put them on trial, convict and imprison them.
