It was on my back door step. In my garden.

They hadn't knocked or left a note. My frozen food is no longer frozen, and my chilled food isn't that cold.

They are going to refund me frozen and chilled - they offered to refund the lot, but I figured that wasn't really fair, as the ambient things should be OK.

I doubt I'll be ordering from Tesco.com again, even though I've only once had a problem before, and that was a broken-down van.

Another friend has had trouble with them recently as well...

heh I was annoyed with them for opposite reasons... I was in the garden so didn't hear the knocking or the door bell and they didn't leave the food but drove it away and wouldn't come back....

how strange. Wonder how they got a signature for payment...

I've never had a problem personally. In fact once they rang me to see if they could deliver early!

I've had trouble with Tesco too. Ocado, on the other hand, are lovely.

Agreed--always had a good experience with Ocado (aside from one slightly odd substitution). Nice 1 hour slots too :)

I find the usefulness of Ocado depends entirely on the local branch of Waitrose. The one hour timeslots are all very well, but in Watford, the branch of Waitrose is so tiny, and the service so oversubscribed, that you're lucky if you can get a slot at all, unless you're willing to accept some very weird times. Not much point in a 1 hour timeslot, if there's only two slots available, and they're both after 9pm...

Hmm - I don't think Ocado uses the branch, that's Waitrose Deliver which only operates in limited areas. (Weirdly, it operates from the Finchley branch but not to where I live even though it's just down the road.) But I live in a part of London that's chock-a-block with Waitrose branches.

Up here in Oldham, we don't have a local branch of Waitrose at all, but we can still get Ocado.

I had repeated problems with them, to the point they had me reduced to tears on the phone.

Tesco have generally been really good - better than Ocado down here.

The only time we had hassles with a particular driver (who was basically lazy and couldnt be arsed to do his job) I complained and they hauled him over the coals and sent all our stuff round immediately by taxi and halved the bill. The customer service has always been good. Never had that driver since either - the manager was furious.

That's remarkably dense. I've never seen them do that before. Still, I think that you're likely to get these occasional up-fucks with any supermarket delivery system. I don't wish to be unpleasant or cast unwarranted aspersions, but if you're highly efficient and competent, you don't deliver shopping for a living.

I always stuck with Tesco, not because they were at all more reliable than the rest, but because when you phoned them to complain, they always dealt with the matter without the slightest hesitation. I recall once some idiot had bounced a bag with a box of eggs in it, pretty much ruining half the contents of the bag. I called them, and they just wrote off everything I told them, no questions asked, and refunded it. The above example of yours is a good one too. Ok, they did something really stupid, but they were willing to compensate handsomely without any argument. Not everyone's customer service is that good.

You're right, but the reason I continued to use Tesco was because the delivery man was very good. If they've got a new, useless delivery man, then my reasoning doesn't work.

You see, I find their delivery charges to be high, and their stock to be a little on the random side, with most deliveries having at least one substitution or item just not brought.

They did deal with it reasonably quickly today, but only after I pointed out that I had to go to work, rather than faff all day. When the van broke down and I didn't get my shopping, I was charged for the delivery slot it came in, which was higher than the slot I'd chosen, and I was already miffed at that.

I mightn't chase for it, but I wouldn't have a problem taking the money (maybe not if it was too much); it's a nice sort of apology for messing up in the first place. FWIW I've had Tescos a couple of times and it's been fine.

And yes, I'm completely puzzled. I wouldn't even mind if they knocked on the door and ran away, except that I might not have been in, as it doesn't make any difference to me, but that seems peverse. Maybe he was confused by your house somehow?
