Well, since the main news that leaks out is the adverts for Chapelfields on the buses, I can see how one might get that idea. It has every conceivable standard clothes store, some frantically expensive stuff, and also quite a few fairly funky places, mainly on the splendidly-named Upper and Lower Goat Lane. Obviously, not being an adventurous clothes shopper, however, I can't promise to be right on this. I only thought that as it costs no more to get to than the two you suggested (Anglia Plus ticket is £11 for the day off-peak), it might provide some variety, and if you had had your fill of shopping, there's plenty of other stuff to look at and wander around...
Sadly (well, happily really) I don't work there any more, so I can't offer to meet up for lunch...
