I was thinking of waiting until Strawberry Fair, but I could go shopping on monday... Stevenage maybe, or Peterborough. What do you think? Anyone fancy a shopping trip? I could do with someone to hold my hand and tell me that I look OK/ridiculous/should stick to classic colours/should branch into bold patterns.

Obvuiously I am not capable of providing sartorial advice (hell, you've met me), but as a venue for such shopping, might I suggest Norwich? It has a suprisingly good mix of shops, and is an endlessly fascinating city in its own right. You'd probably find something to your taste there...

I'd got the impression that Norwich was considerably more upmarket than I'd usually go for, although I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

Well, since the main news that leaks out is the adverts for Chapelfields on the buses, I can see how one might get that idea. It has every conceivable standard clothes store, some frantically expensive stuff, and also quite a few fairly funky places, mainly on the splendidly-named Upper and Lower Goat Lane. Obviously, not being an adventurous clothes shopper, however, I can't promise to be right on this.
I only thought that as it costs no more to get to than the two you suggested (Anglia Plus ticket is £11 for the day off-peak), it might provide some variety, and if you had had your fill of shopping, there's plenty of other stuff to look at and wander around...

Sadly (well, happily really) I don't work there any more, so I can't offer to meet up for lunch...

We're going to John Lewis (Cheadle) on Saturday, but that might be a bit too far for you? I also bought a fleece (£10, bargain) and 3 grandad-style T-shirts (3 for 2) from Cotton Traders.
