1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
I love merino, especially machine washable merino. In fact, in general I prefer washable yarns. I'm not a big fan of mohair, but I'll still use it, if it's an appropriate project.
2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in? For needles, I have a variety of different boxes, which fit inside my yarn boxes. For hooks, I have a set which has its own case.
3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced? I've been knitting for over twenty years - since I was seven. I'm not generally scared of any pattern, so I guess advanced, but I often only actually knit easy things. I'm reasonably new to colour work, but have been doing cabling and lace type things since I was about ten.
4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?Yes
5. What's your favorite scent? I like cinnamon and similar spicy scents.
6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?Yes! I love parma violets and blackcurrant liqourices, but I'm always open to new things :)
7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin? I've been meaning to try spinning for a while. I knit, and I'm learning crochet. I make jewellery, but mostly by knitting :) I don't actually do anything else, but I've been meaning to try naalbinding for a while, too. My (seven-year old) son does cross-stitch.
8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD) I like heavy rock music. I like other sorts too, but that's the safest.
9. What's your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can't stand? My favourite colours are purple, hot pink and petrol blue. I tend not to wear a whole lot of orange and yellow, but there's no colour I absolutely hate.
10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets? I have a husband, a seven-year old son and a dog. The dog is a rottweiler/labrador cross.
11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos? I love hats, gloves/mittens and shawls. I last wore a poncho when I was four, and enjoyed it then (I felt like people would look at me and think I was a real South American girl). I don't wear scarves.
12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit? I've just discovered socks :) Other than that, I like a variety of things. I don;t like to do the same thing for too long.
13. What are you knitting right now? A cardigan and a dress. Mostly the dress, though; it's nearly finished. Both are from 'Sculptured Knits'; both are modified versions.
14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts? Yes! I love it.
15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic? I tend to use plastic needles, but I've just started using bamboos and they're great :) So, I'm happy with any sort of needles; again, I like a variety, depending on the project. But I have loads of needles.
16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift? I've just placed a bid on swift on ebay :) So maybe soon.
17. How old is your oldest UFO? I don't like to think about it. There's a full-length dress which I've finished the back and am halfway up the front..... and have been so for about 4 years now. Still, it could be worse.
18. What is your favorite holiday? In terms of vacation? I loved Oslo, it's a fabulous place, but I'd have to say the honeymoon on the west coast of Ireland :) If we're talking festivals, then Easter, hands down. It's so joyful
19. Is there anything that you collect? Gloves and fans.
20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have? This pattern. I love the Vogue Knitting on the Go books, as well, but checkl the wishlist for which ones I've got. No magazine subscriptions.
21. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn? I'm still slightly scared of provisional cast-ons, which is probably a bit silly. I'mn going to have to conquer my fear if I want to make these socks, though.
22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements? I've just started making socks, and love it. My feet are about 10 inches long.
23. When is your birthday? 1st August, so not during the swap :)
