Allistic children
Apr. 15th, 2014 08:31 amI learnt a disturbing thing about allistic children recently. Apparently, they don't routinely count as high as they can, nor do they rock or twirl or any whole body stimming. Now, I normally identify as allistic, but I do both of those things, and definitely as a child. I'm wondering what other weird things allistic children normally don't do that, and whether the less than helpful 'training' sessions we had at school where someone came in and said 'autistic children are just like you when you were a child' were actually meant to be 'this is how autistic children are different'. (Actually, for a lot of allistic people, the former is a helpful thing to say, unfortunately. I think it would be reasonable to describe me as 'mildly' or 'high functioning' allistic).
Anyway, I'm going to be over here reading
allismspeaks and maybe learn a thing or two about this condition I live with.
