[Gen 22:7]And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here [am] I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where [is] the lamb for a burnt offering?
Being a parent is scary. You have to trust your child, to be willing to give them up. Love, yes, discipline, yes, but also a willingness to give up. You don't own your child - and they will follow their path. So, to be a good parent, I think, is to equip them for whatever path they choose, and to stand back, when the time comes. At first glance, Abraham seems like rather a callous father; and yet, Isaac doesn't seem to blame him. Only they know, I feel; only they understand their relationship. It's a difficult passage.
