Passing on skills

One of my New year's resolutions was to help my partners gain skills I already have that they want to learn.

Duly, yesterday R and I had a baking date and this is how it went.

We made St Lucy buns.

Heating milk and butter so it's the right temperature for feeding yeast.

Mixing the dough

A nice dough ball ready for rising.

Traditionally shaped and ready for the oven.

Look how well they turned out! See how even the crumb is!

If I ask you nicely sometime in 2016, could you teach me this too, or has the new year's resolution expired by then?

I like baking in principle, but have never tried raising things with anything other than self-raising flour or occasional baking powder; I think I'm almost as scared of yeast as I am of making my own pastry.

Yes definitely absolutely, I'd love to.

This is a resolution that came into force on the first Sunday of advent so is quite new, so definitely not running out.

That looks tasty!

(I've baked with R once or twice and had a lot of fun, but geography precludes making it a regular thing.)
