Who's the king of the jungle?"

There's a song that we sometimes sing at children's liturgy at church. Today being Christ the King, we sang it, and it reminded me of the words Judith used, which I rather prefer:

Who's the king of rock'n'roll, Re[*]?
Who's the king of space?
Who's the king of Mickey Mouse[**]
And who's the king of me?

I'll tell you:
J-E-S-U-S
He's the king of me
He's the king of rock'n'roll
and Mickey Mouse and space

[*] Her name for Andreas
[**] In case you, like me, thought Mickey Mouse was Jewish, apparently Disney have always been careful not to be too firm on the subject of his religion

(It's usually the jungle, sea, universe and me, in case you are lucky enough not to have encountered the song, and were wondering.)

I haven't thought of that song for years... Do you do the actions and sound effects (obbleobbleobble for the sea for example)?

Have you ever had the misfortune to come across the song:

Oh it's great, great, brill, brill
Wicked, wicked, skill, skill
To have a friend like Jesus...

A song which screams "We must connect with the youf and we don't actually know any!"

We do some actions, also jungle (oo-oo) and sea (splash! with a clap) but that's it.

That second song sounds like a spoof. Thankfully, I haven't heard of it before.

Sadly it is no spoof... We sang it at CU as a teenager and it stuck in my mind because it was so dreadful.

I believe you! I was just thinking how sometimes there's just no need for satire.

It's not as bad as "Jesus is the telephone repairman on the switchboard of my life" which I was forced to sing in church "youth" group once...

And the church has some really *lovely* music... but no, they have to make up horrid stuff instead.

You. You're left with a feeling that the church somehow do feel this is best, and a desperate need for some Palestrina.

ROFL!

I didn't know Mickey Mouse was Jewish! That's so cool.

He's not explicitly, I just thought he was. Apparently they've been intentionally vague on the subject so all children can assume here's like them.
