I always love a book meme.

This one I saw from [livejournal.com profile] gailcarriger; if you are at all inclined to enjoy her writing style, whether or not you like steampunk/urban fantasy, I'd recommend her blog.

What was the last sf/f/h book you finished reading? Ancillary Sword by Ann Leckie. I liked it well enough but not as much as the first.

What was the last sf/f/h book you did not finish reading? I didn't finish the Silmarillion yet because I put it down somewhere and I don't remember where. I don't normally give up on books, and I can't think of a genre book I did.

What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you liked but most people didn’t? Hmm. I'm sure there was an urban fantasy/fairy tale book which hadn't made it into the sff scene yet, but I can't quite remember. Colin might? Other than that, big love for the John Christopher Swords of the Spirits trilogy which is I think unusual in my acquaintanceship. Oh, I liked The Ocean at the End of the Lane and I don't think I saw a good review of that.

What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you disliked? I didn't like Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers which I found rather boring - too formulaic, maybe? I wanted to like it, nun assassins sounds like it could be great, but she was a Phèdre nó Delaunay clone in a red dress, with more misandry & hang ups and less personality.

How long do your 1-sitting reading sessions usually last? Until someone needs something - dinner, attention, me to go to sleep. Could be a page, could be a whole novel.

What are you currently reading? Cordelia's Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold

Do you like it so far? I really want to, and it was lent to me by someone whose recommendations are normally good for me, but I'm still on the fence.

How long ago did you buy the book you are currently reading? Borrowed book - it's been waiting a while.

What was the last physical sf/f/h book you bought?
Preorder of Prudence by Gail Carriger. If you mean, which was the one I actually received most recently, Symbiont by Mira Grant (which I haven't actually read yet).

What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you like to read the most? I'm in a bit of an urban fantasy phase at the moment, but I go through phases of all of them sometimes, I think.

What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you dislike the most and why? I haven't been on a horror kick for a while, possibly because I spent the entire period from 16-20 in one, and possibly because it's not really [livejournal.com profile] cjwatson's thing?

What is your favorite electronic reading device? I like to read on either my phone or tablet because I find e-ink hard on my eyes (I'm weird, I know). Phone is good because it's easier to hold, tablet because I can easier have bigger print.

What was the last sf/f/h eBook you bought? Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal. Jane Austen with magic. Nicely done, and I'll get round to the rest of the series sometime.

Do you read books exclusively in 1 format (physical/electronic)? No,I read whichever is more convenient.

Do you read eBooks exclusively on a single device? No, I go between phone and tablet.

I read OatEotL in Portland, and rather enjoyed it.

I'm glad it's not just me :)

I like her books. I began with Komarr and have read I think 3 since. I have Cryoburn waiting to read. I like hearing about Miles and all of his family are interesting. Not sure who recommended them.
I read an upstairs book, a downstairs book and one on my tablet at the gym. The first two are real books and I prefer those. The Vorkosigan ones have been books, not ebooks.

Do you know the Liaden Universe books. I was completely hooks on those for a while.

This is my first Bujold. I haven't read any Liaden universe, and will look them up, thanks. In fact, when I saw you'd commented, my first htought was 'ooh, I bet [livejournal.com profile] badriya has a recommendation of something I'd not heard of but will like'.

I used to do upstairs and downstairs and hten I forgot which one was which. I think technically the Bujold is my upstairs book and Carnal Israel is my downstairs book, but both are downstairs at the moment.
Or I used to read an ebook while putting Andreas to bed, but now I play games instead. I think maybe I'd be happier if I returned to reading.

How do you read while putting Andreas to bed? Do you mean you do the pyjamas, story, drink, cuddle andthen have to sit with him quietly until he sleeps?

Yes. He still has milk at bedtime, and I read then.
