I've been more places in Scotland, but I don't really remember. I wasn't yet two years old. Wales was a bit of trial and error, too, as I didn't always know the county name.

What do you notice about this map, boys and girls?

That it could be a mite confusing if you were yellow/blue colour-blind ?

Oh, are people? I made it a light and dark colour in case that might help colour-blind people, but I don't know very much about it.

Red-green is the most common form of colour-blindness, I think it affects something like one in twenty Caucasian men, and it seems reasonable to assume that Caucasian men will make up a significant fraction of the users of any random web-based thing, I've had to make this point to several groups I've worked with in the past. The database curator at my previous place of employment was red-green colour-blind and was helpful about things that were not clearly distinguished to him. Yellow-blue's a lot less common, but I think it is the next most common form, and I'm not aware of any others save for lacking in colour vision altogether. I think you've probably got a good enough brightness distinction between the two categories, but what you don't have is an indication of whether the brighter or darker is yellow for people to whom that's not visible.

Also, maybe I should do an Irish counties one, or similar, though I probably don't know enough Irish people to get the meme started.

Ooh. I know a lot of Canadians. Maybe Canadian provinces.

However, I've been to Canada once for about an hour, and Ireland never, so I wouldn't be able to start the meme the same way. (I started this one by posting it in my LJ and sitting back and watching.)

† I am actually being serious: Seahouses is lovely in the summer and the Farnes are stunning.

Yeah, you've completely missed out on the North-East, although I've never been to the Durham Miner's Gala either. I have been to the Farne Islands though, and seen seals. Northumberland is a place of rugged beauty. It can be a bit chilly, too - take a jumper.

Some of the Welsh counties have recently changed their names: Clwyd isn't called Clwyd any more for starters, it's now split into Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham County Borough, and Conwy County Borough.
