For those of you who believe it's acceptable to belittle rape and sexual abuse.

No, it's not. You might be casual, you might be trying to break a taboo, but for those people who've been hurt by it, it's just coming over as insensitive in the extreme.

I don't mean those people whose own rapes/abuse are not important to them - I mean those people who act as though other people's are. If you don't think this applies to you, it probably doesn't, and I'm glad.

In solidarity, not from experience:No pity. No shame. No silence.

I don't think you're talking about me, but if you are:

Trust me, I am so not belittling it. I am not belittling bullying either. I wouldn't be having/have had all the problems with accepting the anger I feel about both if I was able to belittle them.

Those who expect victims/survivors to forgive, forget, move on, let go, and shut up are the true belittlers.

Oh, God no. I definitely didn't mean you. I meant exactly those people you mention there and in your recent post - the people who think that projecting the image that rape/abuse is OK, or trivial is a good thing.

Oh yes. When I saw the trolls there all my "do not feed the troll" experience went right away and I wanted to sweetly, subtly feed the troll a good dose of cyanide. This is what my post about television earlier today was um, not triggered, initiated sort of by. The whole thing about women being reduced to their genitals alone is just...well it's wrong, for a start, but unlike other wrong things like square windows in aeroplanes nobody's fixed it yet. Things like MTV just seem to make it worse with their shaved oiled arses all over the place. And gaaa and things.

<nods> (actually, this post wasn't exactly triggered by the original post, but the triggers came at an appropriate time)

Thanks.

No means No

It doesn't just affect the person, it affect the people around them. I knew my mother was raped when she was young and when I heard that the older of my two oyunger sisters had been raped I wonder what I could have done, how I could have changed it.
