Update:Jacob seems to think I may have been wrong in this.
Apparently the local paper merely said 'car smashes into garden wall', and this does seem to be a hopeful note.

From today's Cambridge Evening News:

"A fire service spokesman said crews cut off the car roof to free a man who was found semi-conscious in the passenger footwell.

"He was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

" 'It is unbelievable that he survived because the car was a write-off,' said Mr Patel."
